In addition to Channel A’s Marry You, more K-dramas cancel December 7 broadcasts.
Amidst political turbulence following President Yoon Suk Yeol’s declaration and subsequent dismissal of martial law, broadcasters have canceled airing dramas and are broadcasting special news coverage.
As a result, SBS’s Friday-Saturday drama The Fiery Priest Season 2, MBC’s Friday-Saturday drama When the Phone Rings, and JTBC’s Saturday-Sunday drama The Tale of Lady Ok will not air new episodes on December 7.
The Fiery Priest Season 2, is a domestic hit maintaining the top spot among Friday-Saturday dramas with ratings exceeding 10%. Additionally, When the Phone Rings had been gradually gaining traction among domestic drama fans and has emerged as a hit on Netflix by ranking second on the OTT’s Global Top 10 list (non-English) in the first week of December.
Similarly, The Tale of Lady Ok, which premiered last week, received positive reviews and saw a sharp rise in ratings from 4.20% (episode 1) to 6.81% (episode 2).
Despite the dramas progressing to new heights, broadcasters chose to cancel airing new episodes on December 7 to broadcast special news coverage, as tensions between the ruling and opposition parties over President Yoon Suk Yeol’s impeachment intensify and large-scale protests persist in front of the National Assembly.
Meanwhile, tvN’s Saturday-Sunday drama Love Your Enemy and KBS 2TV’s weekend drama The Iron Family will air as scheduled.
