The Tale of Lady Ok drops first teaser.
The Tale of Lady Ok tells the story of Ok Tae Young (Im Ji Yeon), a woman whose name, status, and husband are all fake, and Cheon Seung Hwi (Choo Young Woo), a storyteller who risked his life to protect her.
The teaser reveals the story of slave Gu Deok (Im Ji Yeon), who chose a fake life in her desperation to live being treated as a human being.
The teaser swiftly flashes through the horrifying and miserable past of Gu Deok, who has lived as a slave, trembling in fear. In one scene, she endures brutal beatings while covered in blood, lying on the snowy path on a cold winter day. In another, she is seen being chased by a group along a mountain path.
She says, “My dream is to die of old age. Not to be beaten to death or starve to death, but to die old, gracefully.” A simple yet quite unattainable wish for a slave.
In stark contrast to her once shabby appearance, Gu Deok is now revealed as a graceful lady, with her hair neatly tied up, flower-patterned shoes on her feet, and fine handwriting. Her tear-filled eyes reflect her true self, but after enduring countless hardships, she transforms into the beautiful yet fake Ok Tae Young. Calmly, she confesses, “I am the runaway slave, the fake Ok Tae Young.”
This raises curiosity about how Gu Deok’s desperate struggle to survive led her from being a lowly slave to becoming a noble lady. Anticipation grows for the story of Gu Deok, a slave who dared to dream something impossible in a society like Joseon, where one’s status determined everything.
The Tale of Lady Ok will premiere on November 30. More news about the K-drama’s global OTT platform is yet to come. Watch the teaser here.
