Hyun Bin’s ‘Harbin’ surpasses 1 million moviegoers on 2nd day of release

Harbin attracts 1 million moviegoers within 2 days of release.

Set in 1909 and centered around the real-life historical figure Ahn Jung Geun (Hyun Bin),  Harbin follows Korean independence activists fighting against the Japanese for Korea’s independence.

The K-movie, domestically released on December 24,  surpassed 1 million moviegoers on December 25, the second day of its release, according to distributor statistics from the Korean Film Council’s integrated computer network for theater admissions.

This matches the speed of popular South Korean hits The Roundup and The Roundup: Punishment.

With the fastest record among films released in winter in history to surpass 1 million moviegoers, Harbin‘s box office success is reinvigorating the winter theater market, which had been relatively dormant compared to the summer season after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Given its strong start, compelling plot, star-studded cast (Hyun Bin, Jeon Yeo Been, Park Jeong Min, Jo Woo Jin, Park Hoon, Yoo Jae Myung, Lee Dong Wook) and massive production budget amounting to billions of Korean won, Harbin is highly likely to continue breaking records in the days ahead.
