Han Ji Hyun reveals she decided to be cast in Face Me to act alongside Lee Min Ki.
Face Me follows a cold-hearted plastic surgeon, Cha Jung Woo (Lee Min Ki) and a passionate detective, Lee Min Hyeong (Han Ji Hyun), working together to solve crime cases through reconstructive plastic surgery.
Han Ji Hyun plays the role of Lee Min Hyeong, a passionate detective who is always ready to jump into the scene of a crime. Lee Min Hyeong is not only bold and straightforward but also has an impulsive nature, often reacting physically before thinking when faced with unjust situations. Despite her consistently positive and energetic demeanor, she carries a complicated and personal story that makes her feel vulnerable at times.
Regarding her decision to join Face Me, Han Ji Hyun said, “A major reason was the opportunity to work with senior actor Lee Min Ki. Having watched his previous works, I always wanted to work with him at least once. Also, playing a detective for the first time made me wonder, ‘Can I handle this kind of role?’ There was a sense of challenge in it.”
Han Ji Hyun shared her thoughts on acting alongside Lee Min Ki, saying, “Lee Min Ki sunbae led me so well that I was able to learn a lot, even down to the smallest details. The atmosphere on set was that great, and I think our synergy was just as good.”
In the interview, Han Ji Hyun also revealed that portraying a detective for the first time came with many challenges. She explained, “The terminology used by detectives is difficult, so I struggled with that while acting. Also, since it’s a physically demanding role, I attended an action school to make sure the action scenes came out naturally.”
Han Ji Hyun also shared her thoughts on her character, Lee Min Hyeong, saying, “She is an honest detective with sharp instincts, and when solving cases, she is a very compassionate and emotionally sensitive person.” She added, “While acting, I tried to portray her as sometimes cold and rational, and at other times, more emotional.”
Additionally, Han Ji Hyun increased anticipation for the first episode by recalling a memorable line from the filming. She pointed to the line, “Please take a look at this case,” as one that stood out to her. She explained, “This line marks the point where my character’s relationship with Jung Woo begins, so it stuck with me.”
Han Ji Hyun described Face Me as a story of “recovery“. She explained, “It’s a drama that, through the process of pursuing the truth after a crime, heals not only the physical wounds of the victims but also their emotional scars.”
She didn’t forget to share a message with the viewers as well. Han Ji Hyun said, “Since this is my first time taking on the role of a detective, I’m still lacking in many ways, but I prepared with great effort. Please look forward to seeing what role Lee Min Hyeong and the other characters will play in the drama, and anticipate the dynamic episodes they will unfold. I ask for your support and love.”
Face Me will premiere on November 6. The K-drama will be available on Viki for global viewers.
