Gearing up for action alongside The Fiery Priest 2’s cast
by solstices
It’s finally time for some holy justice! With just a month left till its premiere, the sequel to SBS’s investigative comedy The Fiery Priest is ready to enter the ring with a suave poster and plenty of script reading stills. Reprising the roles that had us all heaving with laughter, our motley trio embarks on another mission with all the stakes raised.
Kim Nam-gil (Song of the Bandits) stars as our titular rosary-clutching hero Kim Hae-il, whose endless struggle to curb his anger reflects the flames of justice that rage within him. Joining hands with Hae-il again is Honey Lee (Knight Flower) as the fiesty no-nonsense prosecutor Park Kyung-seon, who’s probably two seconds away from wielding the sword in her hand against the baddies that get on her nerves. And of course, who can forget Kim Sung-kyun (Moving) as the bumbling violent crimes cop Gu Dae-young, ever-ready to apprehend criminals with all his might.
As the poster’s caption announces: “The mission of Bellator shall begin.” At least, I’m assuming it’s Bellator — Latin for “warrior,” which seems apt for our fighter Hae-il. So is the title of Comes, Latin for “companion,” bestowed upon our trusty aide Kyung-seon. Alas, our police officer doesn’t seem to have his own special title just yet, but perhaps he’ll carve out a name for himself soon enough.
This time, our crew’s righteous fury leads them to Busan, where they’ll face off against the nation’s first drug cartel. It’s an Island face-off once again, for our priest will have to confront Sung Joon (Call it Love) as the drug king Kim Hong-shik. Sold off to Laos as a child, Hong-shik has since returned to his hometown of Busan and established a narcotics empire. Defeating him will be no easy feat, for he’s in cahoots with the corrupt prosecutor Nam Doo-heon, played by Seo Hyun-woo (Seoul Busters).
Rounding out the extensive supporting cast, we have Kim Hyung-seo a.k.a. BIBI (Gangnam B-Side) as the Busan detective Gu Ja-young, alongside Baek Ji-won (Connection), Ahn Chang-hwan (Midnight Photo Studio), Go Kyu-pil (Tarot), Kim Won-hae (A Virtuous Business), and last but not least, our adorable maknae priest Jeon Sung-woo (Goodbye Earth). Yay!
Helmed once more by PD Park Bo-ram (Through the Darkness) and scriptwriter Park Jae-beom (Vincenzo), The Fiery Priest 2 will grace our screens on November 8.
